ALWAYS a good meal
by Curt
on August 27, 2010
I only eat at Bill Smith's three or four times a week and I have never had a bad meal! A couple of the sides served with the lunch specials I was not crazy about but that was my problem--not theirs. The service is fast, friendly and always professional. Portion sizes are large and it is not unusual to see folks leaving with their "doggie bags." Saturday mornings the parking lot gets full and finding a parking space may be a challenge but the reason the lot is full is the food is so good folks are meeting family and friends for breakfast.

Bill has only been doing this for 54 years and he has gotten real good at it.

Great breakfast, don't forget your cash!

I've been wanting to try Bill Smith's for quite some time. I was very pleased with the casual atmosphere and the service. Our waitress was Karen, and she was very pleasant.

Quick service, and the cook made my daughter's pancake order in the shape of Mickey Mouse. Won her over immediately!

I had the bisquits and gravy. Gravy was great, bisquits, not so much. They were hard and tasteless. However, my husband's French toast and my daughter's pancake were superb! Probably the best FT I've ever tasted!

My note about don't forget your cash, this restaurant doesn't accept credit/debit cards. Cash or check only.

I'm sorry it took me so long to dine at this hidden treasure. We will return!

Don't let the look of the place fool you

Bill's is a excellent choice for breakfast. Comfort food like mom cooked. It's not fancy and to be honest, who needs fancy for breakfast. Hash browns, eggs and pancakes. Don't forget a good old cup of coffee without the starbuck's slang to order. A McKinney Landmark that has to be the best breakfast in McKinney.

Disappointed

I had always heard what great food Bill Smith's Cafe had and couldn't wait to try it when we moved here from New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina. I was greatly disappointed with the food, as it wasn't that good. Also, the service was lacking and it was over run when loud kids and
the air reeked of tobacco smoke. It might be a good ole boy gathering place, but not a place that I care to eat at.

I have been eating at Bill's since 1997. My family loves to have breakfast there on the weekends. Great place to eat.

This cafe ROCKS!

Everytime I go to McKinney for breakfast this is where you will find me and my family. The atmosphere is WONDERFUL, you don't feel rushed to get done and get lost! The food is good and if they mess up, they are quick to make it right. I will continue going there. I love supporting a local mom and pop joint!

Like our little motorcycle trip spots
by MamaThunder
on May 21, 2009
I like these types of places for breakfast and lunch, especially on the road. My husband and I like to go for motorcycle rides - and we don't get to do it as often as we like. But when we do - places like Bill Smith's is what we look for. Not just for the atmosphere, good ol' boy cooking, friendly local waitstaff and home town feel - but we KNOW we are supporting the local community and getting a deal on a meal you can't get anywhere else.
This is the kind of food my grandma would make (and I would make if I had paid attention and/or had the time) so I'm appreciative of the little extra effort - and yes, even the little extra calories (just a few more blocks of walking is all later) to put some real butter on my toast for my bacon and fried eggs.
I loved my breakfast I've had there, I loved my pancakes and I'm sure I'd love anything else I'd eat there.
I need to get there more - but they aren't right around the corner from me - yet. (I'm moving to that end of town shorty...so maybe it will be on our list of pitstops with the kids more often.)

I don't know if they still have a smoking area or not - but when they did - I never could smell it come into the main part of the restuarant. That was a pleasant surprise. I have very sensitive smell, and as an ex smoker can smell it a mile away. So if that is still a concern for anyone, no need to worry.

Enjoy your visit to a wonderful, family owned and operated joint here in McKinney - that's just as much a part of McKinney - as McKinney Highschool is a part of McKinney. It Just Is. It belongs here. LOL (and we should make sure it stays in business too - and not let something happen to it like what did to our historical drug store)
Bring your kids, bring your parents, bring your neighbors.
